Are dental implants the best solution for me?

Take a mirror and see if you have any of the conditions in the illustration:

If so, you are a patient who should also consider implant(s) as an option.

What are dental implants?

struktura zubnog implanta

Dental implants are a type of dental restoration used to replace missing teeth. They are designed to look and function like natural teeth, making them a popular choice for those who have lost one or more teeth due to injury, decay or other reasons.

The implant itself is a small specially designed and machined threaded hole made of titanium. It is surgically placed in the jaw, after which it fuses with the bone over time, creating a strong and stable base for tooth replacement. When the implant is connected to the bone, an extension on the implant (abutment) is placed on top, which serves as the basis for replacing the tooth, which can be a crown, bridge or prosthesis.

Dental implants have many advantages over other types of tooth replacement. Because they are fixed directly into the jaw, they provide a level of stability and support similar to natural teeth. This means patients can eat, speak and smile with confidence, without worrying about their replacement teeth moving or shifting in their mouths.

In addition, dental implants help preserve the jaw and maintain the shape of the face, which is not the case when teeth are missing. When a tooth is lost, the jaw in that area begins to narrow and decay, which can change the shape of the face and make it look older. Dental implants help stimulate the jaw, making it strong and healthy.

Implant with crown vs. bridge on ground teeth?

(if one tooth is missing)

back picture search

You have teeth that you don't like in shape and-or triangular black spaces between the teeth

In case you are missing one tooth between two existing teeth, you can do either one implant with a crown on it or a three-piece bridge.

If the existing crowns are undamaged and stable, although both give an esthetically good result, you should give priority to implant placement for three reasons:

  1. You will not have to grind healthy teeth next to the implant, thus extending their life.

  2. The implant transfers the physiological load to the bone around it, thus preventing that bone from receding and collapsing over time, but also increases its density and maintains the volume of the bone.

  3. With this kind of work, you can thread the dental floss through, i.e. it is easier to maintain oral hygiene.

Of course, if the teeth already have large fillings, perhaps the option of a metal-free or metal-ceramic bridge should also be considered.

If the rest of the teeth in the jaw are also incorrectly aligned, you should not rush to install the implant, but first straighten the teeth with an orthodontic prosthesis, because once the implant is installed, it cannot be moved later by therapy.

If the missing teeth are the last in the row of teeth, then an implant replacement is a better solution than a "suspension bridge", which requires grinding more teeth to resist the adverse twisting force.

If two or more adjacent teeth are missing, it is possible to install implants in their place and place either individual crowns on each implant or a bridge on two or more implants.

An implant bridge is a cheaper option than individual crowns on each implant. In cases where the complete reconstruction of all teeth is necessary, it is possible that a bridge on the teeth, metal-free or metal-ceramic, is a more economically acceptable solution.

A dental bridge is certainly not possible if a row of teeth is missing at the end of the jaw, as in the picture above. There, apart from implants, only a movable prosthesis would be possible.

Can I replace the total prosthesis with a fixed bridge?

Certainly. If you do not have any teeth or all of them are for extraction, ALL on 4 or ALL on 6 systems on implants are a possible solution for you. You can find all the information about it here .

Can I make a classic prosthesis stabilized on implants?

Svakako.  Ako nemate nijedan zub ili su svi za vađenje, moguće je dodatno stabilizovati protezu ugradnjom 2 ili 4 implantata.

Kolika je stopa uspešnosti implantacije?

Da li postoje garancije?

Once placed, implants are intended to remain in place forever.

Crowns and bridges on implants, if they are fixed with screws or cemented with special permanent temporary implant cements, can be removed and serviced in the laboratory if necessary.

The success rate of dental implant placement is generally high, with studies reporting success rates of 95-98%. However, the success of dental implant placement can depend on a number of factors, including the patient's general health, smoking, oral hygiene, the quality and design of the implant, and the experience and qualifications of the implantologist. It is important to be aware of the potential risks and benefits of the procedure and to discuss these with your dentist.

The manufacturer of the implant itself guarantees that you will receive a new implant free of charge if for any reason the implant is rejected from the jaw. Those cases are rare and are usually resolved successfully in the next attempt.

The free service guarantee cannot apply to our time and other resources that are not free to us. What we can guarantee is that we will do things according to the protocols recommended by the implant manufacturer.

There may be a change in the treatment plan due to some unforeseen circumstances beyond our control, but it is important for you to get the desired result in the end.

We work with several world famous brands, such as Nobel, AlfaBio and Zimmer...

We are always with our patients.

Is it possible to install an implant in my case?

Most likely it is. Only a small number of patients are relatively or absolutely contraindicated,

Relative contraindications for placement of dental implants include:

  1. Poor oral hygiene: If the patient does not have good oral hygiene, plaque and calculus can build up around the implant, which can lead to inflammation and periodontal disease, which can affect the success of the implant.

  2. Active periodontal disease: If a patient has active periodontal disease, it means that there is inflammation and bone loss around the existing teeth. This disease can affect the success of the implant, as it can lead to bone loss around the implant.

  3. Insufficient jawbone density: If the jawbone is not dense enough, the implant may be impossible to place, or there is a greater risk of implant failure.

  4. Smoking : Smoking can affect the healing process and increase the risk of implant failure.

These conditions can increase the risk of implant failure and should be addressed before the procedure begins , by consulting a dental professional and examining. The implantologist will examine your oral hygiene, periodontal condition, bone density and other conditions that may affect the success of the implant. If it is determined that there is a relative contraindication, your dental professional will offer you adequate recommendations and options to solve the problem.

Absolute contraindications for placing dental implants include conditions such as uncontrolled diabetes , radiation therapy to the head and neck, and certain autoimmune diseases . These conditions can affect the healing process and make implant placement impossible.

Radiation therapy to the head and neck can cause damage to the jaw bone, which is inadequate to support the implant. In addition, radiation therapy can cause inflammation and tissue damage, which can make it difficult for the implant to fuse with the surrounding bone.

Certain autoimmune diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis and lupus , can also make implant placement impossible. These diseases can cause chronic inflammation in the body and affect the healing process. In addition, these diseases can cause bone loss, which can make the jawbone too weak to support an implant.

It is important to note that these are only examples of absolute contraindications, and the patient should consult with a dental professional to determine if dental implants are the right choice for him. They will perform a thorough examination, take into account your medical and dental history, and evaluate the current condition of your jawbone to determine if you are a suitable candidate for implants.

How much does the installation of dental implants cost?

calculator

The cost of installing dental implants can vary for several reasons, and there is no universal amount because each case requires an individual approach. Here are the factors that affect the price:

  1. Implant Components – The implant is only part of the procedure. In addition to it, you also need an abutment (upgrade) and a crown, the materials and method of manufacture of which affect the total price.

  2. Type and complexity of the procedure - Each patient is unique, so the costs vary depending on the number of implants, whether a sinus lift or a bone graft is needed to stabilize the jaw bone.

  3. Technology - Implant placement can be manual or with the help of a surgical guide, which can significantly affect the precision of the procedure, but also the price.

  4. Quality of the implant – The quality and brand of the implant, as well as the type of abutment (factory or custom-made), additionally determine the price.

  5. Expertise of the dentist - The price can be determined by the experience and specialization of the dentist or oral surgeon performing the procedure.

  6. Additional services - Some patients require analgosedation with the presence of an anesthetist, which can also affect the price.

  7. Diagnostic costs - Before the procedure, a 3D image of the jaws is required to determine the optimal therapy.

What is the procedure for installation and prosthetics on implants?

The procedure for placing dental implants usually involves several steps:

  1. Consultations : During the first consultation, we will examine your mouth and analyze your 3D X-rays to determine if you are a suitable candidate for dental implants. We will also discuss your treatment options and possible risks or complications.

  2. Surgery : During surgery, we will make an incision in your gums and make a small hole in your jawbone to place the implant. Then the implant will be placed in the bone.

  3. Healing period : After surgery, your jaw bone will need time to heal and fuse with the implant. This process can take several months, during which you will have to follow strict oral hygiene recommendations and avoid pressure on the implantation site.

  4. Placement of the abutment : After the implant has joined your jawbone, we will place a small connecting piece, known as an abutment, on the implant. This will serve as the base for your replacement tooth.

  5. Placement of the replacement tooth: After the abutment is in place, we will take an impression of your teeth to create a custom replacement tooth that we will attach to the abutment.

Does implant placement hurt?

In general, the procedure of placing dental implants is considered a relatively minor surgical procedure . The operation does not hurt because it is performed under local anesthesia. For frightened patients or extensive operations, it is possible to apply intravenous sedation under the control of an anesthesiologist. After the installation procedure, swelling is expected, so we will recommend you to rest, we will prescribe cold compresses, antibiotics and preventive pain medications and anti-swelling medications.

Do I have enough bone for an implant?

Having enough bone in the jaw is important for the successful placement of dental implants. If there is not enough bone, the implant may not fuse sufficiently with the jaw and may fail.

During the first consultation, we will analyze the X-rays and perform a detailed examination of your jaw to determine if there is enough bone to place the implant. If there is not enough bone, there are several options that we will consider:

  1. Bone grafting: Bone grafting is a surgical procedure that involves adding bone tissue to the jaw to increase bone density. Purchased bone substitutes in granules are mainly used.

  2. Sinus lift : If there is not enough bone in the upper jaw, a sinus lift may be needed. This procedure involves adding bone in the area above the upper jaw, near the sinuses.

  3. Ridge widening : If there is not enough bone in the width of the jaw, a ridge widening procedure can be performed. This procedure involves making a small incision in the gums and using special instruments to slightly stretch the jawbone to create more space for the implant.

  4. Immediate loading : This technique is a special protocol that allows the implant to be immediately loaded after surgical placement, this technique is not recommended for every case and should be evaluated by an implantologist.

It is important to note that these are only examples of options and the best option for you to consider after a detailed review and analysis of the 3D image.
